Censor Board warns film clubs
not to violate rules

United News of Bangladesh . Dhaka

Government authorities warned of legal actions against the film clubs organising film festivals violating existing rules.
Bangladesh Film Censor Board said the board expects only registered and permitted film clubs would arrange film festivals maintaining relevant existing laws.
‘It has been noticed in the few days that some unregistered film clubs and other organisations are holding film festivals in different auditoriums and public places without permission of the Censor Board or the information ministry. It is contrary to section 7(1) of the Film Clubs (Registration and Control) Act 1980 and is a punishable offence as per its section 10’, said an information ministry release.
It also noted that most of the film clubs did not have registration or their registration dates expired. In this regard, those clubs have no legal rights to conduct activities under the act.
‘Most of the films screened in the so-called film festivals are uncensored. This type of screening is against the Censorship of Films Act 1963 and a punishable crime. Moreover, the screening of films in unlicensed places is also against The Cinematograph Act 1918 (amended in 1982)’, the release said.

FDC to set up archives
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha . Dhaka

The government will set up an archive or corner in the Film Development Corporation in memory of the renowned persons of the film industry.
Information Secretary Jamil Osman said this while inaugurating the Fazlul Haque Auditorium at FDC’s Manna Digital Complex here on Wednesday, an official handout said.
The information secretary said, the living personalities of the film industry should be given recognition to their contribution along with the departed ones for a healthy flourishment of the film industry.
FDC managing director ANM Badrul Amin, younger brother of Fazlul Haque, Fazlul Karim and the son and Channel-i managing director Faridur Reza Sagar, addressed, among others, on the occasion.
Jamil Osman said, Fazlul Haque was the pioneer for establishment of the FDC. He published the monthly ‘Cinema’ in 1950 from Bogra town to attract common people, middle class and intellectuals to local films.
He produced child film ‘President’ in 60s, which later received national award.
