The High Court has so far declared illegal the detention orders of at least 150 people, mostly politicians, issued by the interim government since the declaration of the state of emergency on January 11, 2007. Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council punished only one doctor in 35 years, although the regulatory body was swamped by an avalanche of complaints about maltreatment and negligence of doctors, sometimes causing deaths to patients.
