Indian rice price goes
up by $150 a tonne

The overheated domestic rice market is exposed to a further volatility as India hiked minimum export price by 30 per cent, making rice costlier by $150 per tonne, traders said. Traders at Hili and Benapole land ports, the major entrances for Indian rice, said Indian authorities impose taxes calculating rice export price at $650 per tonne, while local price remains $350 there. US duty-free access bill faces opposition

The US bill seeking to give Bangladesh and few other small economies duty-free market access faces a major challenge due to strong opposition from textile lobbies in Americas, Africa and Caribbean countries, industry sources said.
