Private banks to
cap lending rates
at 14.75pc

Twenty-nine private banks will reduce their industrial lending rates to a maximum of 14.75 per cent and the gap between deposit and lending rates to 5 per cent. They will set uniform ceiling for service and commission rates, Bangladesh Bank governor Salehuddin Ahmed said Monday after receiving a set of proposals from the banks.....[ + ]

Budget deficit
to widen by
Tk 3208cr

The government’s deficit financing is set to spiral out of the budgetary projection by Tk 3,208 crore due to soaring global prices of and higher spending on subsidies to petroleum, fertiliser and rice, highly-placed officials said. The budget deficit is now projected at Tk 25,521 crore or 4.77 per cent of the gross domestic product, up from 4.2 per cent expected in the current fiscal year...[ + ]

New budget to focus on investment promotion

Investment promotion is set to get a special focus in the next budget for an economic turnaround to create employment opportunities, finance officials hinted. Electronic traffic signals used occasionally

The Dhaka City Corporation spends Tk 1.5 crore every year for the maintenance of 68 electronic signalling systems, many of which remain dysfunctional disrupting traffic management and free flow of vehicles, sources in the corporation and Dhaka Metropolitan Police said. Non-operation of the systems and faulty time-adjustment at some points also compel the traffic policemen to manually operate the signals in the capital...
