THE railway authorities in a drive in the Chandmari-Chashara area in Narayanganj town have reclaimed land worth about Tk 3 crore by evicting several structures established on the grabbed land.
The grabbers had been occupying the land for a long time, officials and locals said.
Divisional estate officer of the Bangladesh Railway Delowar Hossain on Tuesday led the eviction drive where a number of police and RAB personnel were present.
The officials said 33 decimals of railway land worth Tk 3 crore had been gradually grabbed by a section of local people. The grabbing began soon after the Independence in 1971. The land grabbers established houses, shops, small industries, etc illegally over the land.

After the reclamation, the railway authorities handed over the land to Sabbir Ahmed Kabir.
Local people said a vast tract of railway land had been occupied by illegal land grabbers for long. But the extent of illegal land could not be confirmed as there is no office of the railway in the district.
One needs to contact its Chittagong office to collect information about railway land in Narayanganj.
