Besides, production in the mills and factories in the district is being seriously affected due to erratic power supply, the sources added.
‘Everyday we have to count huge losses as production in our mills and factories remain suspended most of the time due to load shedding,’ an owner of a mill said.
‘The persisting power crisis threatens survival of the mills and factories in the country’s northern district,’ he added.
Perishable agricultural goods kept in cold storages are being damaged due to supply shortage of electricity, a businessman said.

Almost all the villages and even the district town plunge into darkness as night falls, causing immense sufferings of the people.
A guardian while talking to New Age said education of our children is also being badly affected as they cannot study at night-time due to load shedding.
‘Why should we continue to suffer power outages while we are paying electricity bill including service charge regularly?, an agrieved subscriber said.
There are 73 unions under nine upazilas of the district and 69 of them have electricity coverage under the Rural Electrification Board, according to official sources.
Sources at the Power Division said the grid sub-station of the district is currently supplying only 8MW to 12MW a day against the total demand for 38MW.
Sources at local Palli Bidyut Samity, told New Age that the power crisis persists in the district as they are not getting adequate power.
The samity requires 24MW everyday to meet the power demand but it gets only 7MW to 10MW, much lower that the total demand, the sources added.
