Dhaka mayor, family sued for alleged corruption

The Anti-Corruption Commi-ssion on Wednesday lodged a case against the Dhaka mayor, Sadeque Hossain Khoka, his wife, son and daughter for amassing illegal wealth and concealing information in the wealth statements.
   The mayor’s wife, Ismat Ara, daughter Sarika Sadeque and son Ishrak Hossain were accused of abetting him in the crime, according to the first information report filed with Ramna police by the commission’s assistant director Samsul Alam...[ + ]

A group of 126 former BNP lawmakers on Wednesday alleged a conspiracy was on to depoliticise the country and to create a ‘rubber stamp’ parliament. Rice price up by Tk 2-3
in two days

Coarse rice prices increased by Tk 2 to Tk 3 a kilogram in two days after India had banned rice export although supply from local stocks, as market sources said, remained steady on both wholesale and retail ends. ;The sources said panic buying by some consumers and profiteering by some traders were instigating the latest round of rice price increase. NBR to reward 5 top taxpayers in each district

The National Board of Revenue is planning to reward five top and regular taxpayers in each district every year and intends to introduce tax identity cards for the taxpayers. The board would try its level best to provide harassment-free services and reduce the gap between taxpayers and officials, said NBR chairman Abdul Mazid at a function on income tax return submission for the tax zone-5 in the Dhaka
