Drama serial Dhaka 71 to
be aired from Nov 26

Robab Rosan

Drama serial ‘Dhaka 71’, based on the eminent novelist Rabeya Khatun’s well- acclaimed novel ‘Ferary Surja’ will be aired on Channel-i from November 26.
The play, scripted and directed by Munir Hasan Chowdhury and produced by Impress Tele-film, will be telecast every Monday and Tuesday at 10:00pm.
Popular actors Mahfuz Ahmed and Tanima Hamid will perform the major roles in the play. Among others, Syed Hasan Imam, Laila Hasan, Lucky Enam, Fakrul Hasan Boiragi, Eliza Chishti, Mohammad Bari, Mehraj Hossain Anna, Chandan Reza, Syed Atik, and Hridi Haque will be on the cast.
The story of the play revolves around some incidents that happened in Dhaka during the country’s war of independence. The city during the war, people’s involvement and sufferings during the war and the post-war city life will be presented in the play.
The novel, which is acclaimed as the diary of Dhaka during the war, was written for the celluloid. The novel is also considered a documentation of the war of independence. ‘I wrote it for Khan Ata as he told me to make a film on it. After a long time, the novel has been scripted for a drama serial,’ says Rabeya Khatun.
‘I passed most of the war time in Dhaka. I have written the incidents, which I saw and heard during the war and have also presented the post-war realities of the city,’ she adds.
Munir Hasan Chowdhury says that he will uphold the sufferings of the people who were confined to the city. ‘I have given importance to presenting the inner pathos of the war-affected people, who had to keep indoors during the curfew and shelling’, he continues, ‘for that reason, the indoor shooting is prevailing over the outdoor shooting.’
The director, who has plans to make the serial of 13 to 15 episodes, says that he has brought some changes in transforming the novel into a drama. ‘But the spirit of the novel is unchanged,’ he says.
