Three war films to be screened today

As part of a four-day session of films on the war of independence, three films by Tareque Masud and Catherine Masud will be screened today. The organisers will screen a full-length feature film Matir Moina at 11:00am, and 3:00pm; Muktir Gaan at 1:00pm, 5:00pm and Muktir Katha at 7:00pm. Screening will be held at the Shaukat Osman Auditorium of the Central Public Library in Shahbagh. Before screening of the films, two documentary shows including ‘Narir Katha’, a short documentary on the role of women in the war of independence in 1971, will be screened. The film ‘Matir Moina’ is set against the backdrop of the 1969 movement leading up to the war of independence. ‘Muktir Gaan’ presents the experiences of a troupe of young cultural activists who perform at the refugee camps and liberated zones during the war. The film ‘Muktir Katha’ takes a look at the post-liberation scenario, from the perspective of ordinary villagers and freedom fighters, whose hopes and dreams turned to frustration after the war. Ticket, priced at Tk 30, will be available on the premises of the Public Library. Proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to the victims of cyclone Sidr.
Victory Day shows on channels

Marking Victory Day, private satellite channels will air different programmes including films, dance programmes, musical shows and discussions. Besides airing programes, Channel-i will hold a day-long Bijoy Mela featuring a reminiscing about war of independence, music, recitation and screening of war films. The festival will be aired live from its premises at Tejgaon. Eminent personalities from socio-cultural arena will inaugurate the programme at 11:00am. ATN Bangla will begin its airing with Elore Bijoy, a dance performance by children. A special programme tiled Prabasi Bhabna will be aired at 8:30am followed by Lal Sabujer Deshe at 9:30am. Feature film Ora Egarajon featuring Razzak, Shabana, Khalil and Raju Ahmed will be aired at 1:10pm. Drama Minister by Rezanur Rahman will be aired at 9:00pm. Different roles are played by Fazlur Rahman Babu, Mohammad Bari, Parvin Mahbuba, Kazi Paris and Sumi.
