War films to be screened

A four-day session of films on the war of independence by Tareque and Catherine Masud will be held at the Shaukat Osman Auditorium of the Central Public Library, beginning December 13. Tapur Tupur organises the screening marking Victory Day. The organisers will screen three films each day. ‘Matir Moina’ will be shown at 3:00pm, ‘Muktir Gaan’ will be screened at 5:00pm, and ‘Muktir Katha’ at 7:00pm. In addition to the main films, ‘Matir Moina’ and ‘Muktir Gaan’ will be preceded by a short ‘making-of’ documentary, and ‘Muktir Kotha’ will be preceded by ‘Narir Kotha’, a short documentary on the role of women in the war of 19’71. The feature film ‘Matir Moina’ is set against the backdrop of the 1969 movement leading up to the war of independence. ‘Muktir Gaan’ presents the experiences of a troupe of young cultural activists who performed at the refugee camps and liberated zones during the war. The film ‘Muktir Katha’ takes a look at the post-liberation scenario, from the perspective of ordinary villagers and freedom fighters, whose hopes and dreams turned to frustration after the war. Tickets priced at Tk 30 will be available on the premises of the Public Library. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the victims of cyclone Sidr.
Channel-i to hold Bijoy Mela

Channel-i will hold a day-long Bijoy Mela at its premises at Tejgaon on Victory Day. Eminent personalities from socio-cultural arena will inaugurate the programme at 11:00am. The channel will air the programme live. ‘The event will feature a reminiscing about war of independence, music, recitation and screening of war films, said the managing director of the Impress Telefilm Limited, Faridur Reza Sagar at a briefing on Tuesday. ‘Twenty noted artist will sketch paintings at the festival. Proceeds from the paintings sales will be donated to the Liberation War Museum, he added. Cultural organisations including Chhayanaut, Cranti, Surer Dhara, Sur Saptak, Nrityanchal, Dhrubatara and Wrishiz Shilpi Goshti will perform at the programme. Apel Mahmood, Subir Nandi, Syed Abdul Hadi, Fakir Alamgir, Rowshan Ara Mustafiz, Indramohan Rajbangshi and others will sing while Jayanta Chottapadhay, Kazi Arif and Progga Laboni will recite poems.
