Entity: an exhibition of
archaeological heritage

Robab Rosan

A two-week-long exhibition of the sketches of Bangladesh’s archaeological heritage titled ‘Entity’ by Sajid-Bin-Doza Bonny is being held at the gallery of Alliance Française in Dhanmondi.
The exhibition was inaugurated by noted artist Rafiqun Nabi on Monday.
Sajid, who is basically an architect, is displaying 42 sketches of archaeological sites of the country using pencil, colour pencil, pastel and pen.
The artist has sketched both the well-known and little-known historical sites. He has drawn the images of the decorated frontal views of them from a distance. His images include, Bara-Taraf Natore Rajbari in Natore, Sagarpara Palace in Rajshahi, Shiva Temple of Puthia in Rajshahi, and Kantajee Temple in Dinajpur. He ahs also sketched a portion of Curzon Hall of Dhaka University, Paharpur Buddha Bihar in Naogaon, remains of Dakhil Darwaza of Chapainawabganj, Tomb of Pari Bibi in Lalbagh Fort and Rose Garden in Dhaka.
The artist has sketched most of the sites sitting in front of them while some were drawn following the photographs on them. ‘I tried to present the sites as I saw them. But being an artist I did not forget to present them in artistic way so that the viewers may enjoy the beauty of our archaeological heritage,’ Sajid said.
Arranging his maiden exhibition the artist aims to create awareness among the people on the conservation and preservation of the historical sites. ‘These sites are historically very significant. They carry our identity. Unfortunately many of our important heritage sites have already been demolished and many of them are on the verge of extinction,’ he continued, ‘I hope the viewers will feel the importance of preserving them seeing their images.’
The exhibition will remain open everyday from 9:00am to 12:00pm and 5:00pm to 8:00pm till December 16 and from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Saturdays.
