Quamrul Hassan’s exhibition begins today

With the works of Quamrul Hassan, a reputable painter of the country, Bengal Gallery in Dhanmandi will host a 15-day painting exhibition titled Lekha O Rang. Professor Anisuzzaman will inaugurate the show as chief guest at 6:0pm today while renowned artist Qayyum Chowdhury will be present as special guest. A total of 100 paintings will be on display and all the pieces of work will be on sale. Interested art enthusiasts can buy the paintings from the gallery premises. A pre-press conference was held at its gallery on Tuesday on the occasion.
Four-day CD launch ends

A four-day CD launching programme organised by Bengal Foundation ended on Monday with the release of Sharmin Sathi Islam’s album on Nazrul Sangeet. Journalist Abul Momen unveiled the cover of the album titled ‘Sandhya Godhuli’ as chief guest. Abul Momen in his speech said that Nazrul’s songs had brought a new trend in the world of Bangla songs in terms of diversity and richness. He also said that for political reasons a divided Nazrul has been presenting to us since the creation of Pakistan. He condemned, ‘Unfortunately, the tradition is still going on.’ About the gayaki or singing style of Sathi, Momen said that the singer can present the underlying spirit of Nazrul’s songs with her natural approach. He added, ‘We can enjoy the hidden pathos of Nazrul Sageet in the voice of Sathi.’ The singer began her performance with the song ‘Gagane gahane sandhya tara’ and continued with other numbers including ‘Pathik esechho naki’, ‘Amay nohe go’, ‘Surer bani mala diye’, ‘Sandhya gadhuli lagane’, ‘Gabhir nishithe ghum bhenge’, ‘Elo Krishna’. Sathi took the compositions of the songs from the old gramophone records to keep in touch of originality of the songs. Her presentations of Nazrul Sangeet were also appreciated by the audience. The signer was accompanied with Enamul Haque Omar on the tabla, Iftekhar Hossain Sohel on keyboard, Almas Ali on behala, Daulatur Rahman on guitar and Nazmul Alam Jharu on mandira.
Wrishiz remembers cultural icons

In remembrance of poet Shamsur Rahman and artist Nitun Kundu Wrishiz Shilpi Gosthi organised a cultural evening at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy on September 17. Besides, two artistes from West Bengal Shubhendu Maiti and Taposhi Ray Chowdhury were honoured at the event. Kamal Lohani was present as chief guest while Golam Kuddus, Dr Zahid Hossain Prodhan, Indra Mohan Rajbongshi and Mahmud Selim were present as guests. Fakir Alamgir presided over the programme.
