Promising stars meet the media

The best twenty-five contestants of the Lux Channel-i Super Star 06 appeared before the media at a city hotel on Saturday.
   With a view to introducing the artistes with the media the event was organised by Unilever and Channel-i.
   Besides, these promising stars of the competition have signed a one-year contact with Channel-i and they can work in any media taking permission from Channel-i authority, said the managing director of Impress Telefilm Ltd Faridur Reza Sagar at the introducing programme.
   Eminent personalities from socio-cultural arena including Chashi Nazrul Islam, Morshedul Islam, Amjad Hossain, Sohanur Rahman, Shah Alam Kiran, Asaduzzamn Noor and others were present on the occasion.
   Earlier, a total of 8000 contestants from across the country registered their names for competing at the event which was divided into four categories comprising Agnipariksha, Opsara, Tarar Mela and Tarakar Pathshala respectively.
   The hunt is on for a heroine for the tele-cinema Daruchini Dip, based on a novel by Humayun Ahmed. The champion will play a major role in the film directed by Toukir Ahmed.
   A three member jury board comprising Subarna Mostafa, Tarik Anam Khan and Alamgir have been judging the aspiring contestants from the first round of the competition.
   The best three contestants will perform in a telefilm by Giasuddin Selim which will be aired soon and the champion will be selected from the telefilm through viewers’ SMS, said the organiser.


Children’s Film Society
begins its journey today

Three-day film festival to kick off

The Children’s Film Society Bangladesh will begin its journey from today. The organisers will arrange a launching ceremony of the society at 6:30pm at the auditorium of the Goethe-Institut in Dhanmondi.
   To mark the inaugural session, a three-day film festival for children will begin at the same auditorium.
   Chief adviser of the newly formed film society, Mustafa Manwar, will be present as chief guest while young filmmaker Arjo Sheshtha, who received several international awards for filmmaking, will be present as special guest.
   On the inaugural day, the organisers will screen ‘The boy, the slum and the pan lid’ a 5-minute film directed by Cao Hamburger of Brazil; ‘Ek Akash’, a 15-minute film made by Sudhakar Reddy of India and ‘The Kid’, a 68-minute film by Charles Chaplin of USA.
   On September 11, ‘Children of Heaven’, directed by Majid Majidi of Iran will be screened at 4:00pm and ‘Not One Less’, directed by Zhang Yimou of China at 6:00pm.
   ‘Emiler Goyenda Bahini’ by Badal Rahman and ‘Dipu Number Two’ by Morshedul Islam will be screened at 4:00pm and 6:00pm respectively on September 12.

Robin Hood tapes recovered

Master tapes of the BBC’s new £8m series of Robin Hood, which were stolen on location in Hungary, have been found by police.
   Tiger Aspect, the company which had leased a film studio in the town of Fot, near Budapest, where the tapes were stolen, said it was ‘delighted’.
   But the firm would not comment further about the ongoing Hungarian inquiry.
   The BBC described the news as ‘very positive’. Two people were reported to have been arrested on Friday.
   A statement from Tiger Aspect read, ‘Earlier today, the Hungarian police recovered the property stolen from the Robin Hood production site in Budapest.
   ‘Obviously investigations are not complete and therefore we do not wish to make any further comment about an ongoing Hungarian enquiry.’
   At its launch in London, the show’s stars revealed they had been re-shooting scenes on location.
   The 13-part drama will be screened on Saturday evenings from next month, in the slot previously occupied by Doctor Who.
   The show, which stars Irish-born actor Jonas Armstrong in his first lead role, has been filmed in the new high definition format.
   It has been part-financed by BBC America, and is due to air on the corporation’s US cable channel next year.
   A BBC spokeswoman said, ‘We understand that the majority of the material has been recovered.’


Reza’s craft show begins Sept 11

A six-day creative craft exhibition titled ‘Rag Picked Colours’ by Shamim Reza will begin from September 11 at the Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts in Dhanmondi.
   The inaugural ceremony will be held at 5:30pm and Professor Abdus Shakoor Shah, director of the Fine Art Institute of Dhaka University, will be present as chief guest.
   The exhibition will remain open from 12:00pm to 8:00pm till September 16.
