Radio Foorti, claiming to be the first FM radio channel and Aawaj, a mobile content provider, distributed prizes among winners of their first short messaging quiz contest on Wednesday. Over 1 lakh SMS were received by Aawaj as answers to five questions of the contest, said Arild Klokkerhaug, head of opportunities, Aawaj, while talking to New Age. The questions were broadcast during the Radio Foorti programmes from October 20 till October 23. ‘I love listening to Radio Foorti and the concept behind the station,’ said Ella Quia, who won the PC with LCD monitor, the first prize of the contest. ‘It’s a unique contest where I could choose what I wanted to win,’ she said. She also informed that contestants, who registered to participate, could choose from a range of prizes like a PC with LCD monitor, a 30,000 taka gift voucher at any branded store, a trip to Malaysia or a 29’ Television with DVD player. Ella answered correctly to all the questions and was chosen as the winner through lottery. The fortunate winner was overwhelmed by the party that Aawaj and the Radio Foorti team threw for her during the prize distribution ceremony on November 1. ‘The response we are getting about the music is extremely good,’ said Radio Jockey Topu of the channel. The channel has already established themselves in the hearts of their listeners through upbeat music and unique programmes. ‘Listeners can anticipate other contests in the future through this radio channel,’ assured Arafat, a producer at Radio Foorti. ‘As we are working in partnership with all mobile operators, participants who register into these contests can answer through SMS very easily. We wish to continue providing the registered users of our Aawaj community with innovative contests,’ said Arild of Aawaj. Around a thousand users are already registered in the Aawaj community.

Oliver Stone shoots film for Beijing
Reuters . Beijing
Oliver Stone, director of ‘JFK’ and other films that have courted controversy for their political content, will shoot a short film to promote Beijing ahead of the 2008 Olympics, organizers said on Thursday. The five-minute film would form a ‘promotional video for cultural exchange between Beijing and the world’ and be shown on television, in cinemas and on aircraft in China and abroad, the organizers said in a statement. ‘Today, many peoples of the world can live in harmony, and China plays an important role,’ Stone told the Beijing News. ‘China and the United States are two big countries that should have more interaction. My goal in shooting this Olympic short film also lies in this — the need to build a harmonious international society.’ The 60-year-old Oscar winner is the third director invited to capture impressions of Beijing as it prepares for the Olympics.
