LEGALITY OF FIFTH AMENDMENT
HC verdict stayed
for two months

Saifur sets time for some SOEs to go public

The finance and planning minister, M Saifur Rahman, on Wednesday gave timeframe to some public enterprises to float the shares and directed others to restructure the enterprises to make them ready, both technically and legally, for floating shares. BSTI to expand to all district headquarters

The minister for industries, Matiur Rahman Nizami, on Wednesday said the authorities are not facing any political pressure against drives against food adulteration. At a briefing in his office in Dhaka, he said the government will initiate a Tk 503-crore project to expand the activities of the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution in 64 districts. He said such drives often faced obstacles because of inadequate number of magistrates. The standards institution will have offices in 20 district headquarters in the first phase of the programme, he said. It now has its offices in six divisions, with only 11 field officers against 21 positions...
