The parking is full but I am undeterred. I must go up and so to get a spot Tk10 comes out and the guard using his ingenuity finds a spot by a pile of sand. I don’t mind, it’s Friday and the party mood is in full swing. As I glide up, the entrance of the lounge tempts me, and I yield, happily. Inside the Kozmo Lounge, the happening spot in the city at the moment, life is wrapped in refreshing cool air and soothing music. The sax playing on the set hits the ears and I am immediately attracted to this gorgeous sitting with her friends wearing black. The dark side of beauty eh? Unfortunately, she is not interested in a short and bald man, but who cares, nothing wrong if I savour her beauty. Spaghetti flies, someone munches on fresh fries, a table breaks into ripples of laughter and a guy I know walks over with a glass of iced tea with a Bogart smile on his lips. Who needs meditation? Just hop in here and the Kozmo will do the relaxing therapy for you.
Okay, you are looking for a place in the heart of the city which will give you a nice view, a lip-licking menu, obviously good music and what the hell, maybe an in house theatre. Am I dreaming? No, I am not and I am not referring to some cool joint out of the country either. Here in Dhaka city, there is a place in Dhanmondi where you can actually feel like unwinding, mind you, without being hurried.
The name of the place again? It’s The Kozmo Lounge and believe me, the idea here is to allow the people to dine and let the grime of city life wear off.
I sit on a sofa and see a familiar face managing the whole show. Arif Hafiz in his black T-shirt, goatee and a smile seems to be on a cosmic level himself. ‘Well, we had to ask the owner of the building to increase the parking space because so many people are coming to relax,’ he says throwing a captain’s nod to a belle sitting not too far away. By the way he is the interior and concept designer of the lounge. Where is the menu? I ask and Arif points towards a big note book kind of thing. Hey, the menus are right in front of you. You tick the items you want, tear the page and hand it over. ‘Try the spaghetti, its divine,’ purrs a gal sitting on the net table and I comply. The menu also offers exotic items like Vietnamese spring rolls, teriyaki beef and of course common items like burgers and stuff. But, is eating the main motive here? Ummm, though the food is great, the ambiance is perhaps the best feature of Kozmo Lounge. One side of the wall is glass and the view is that of a small lake.
Like I said there is a massive screen and one can play DVD’s of his/her choice. By the way, the price is not exorbitant and if you weigh the price of items against the feeling Kozmo leaves you with then, eventually, you are the winner.
As I wait for the food and pay attention to my wife (after being given death stares) I notice the smoking room. One has to take his hats off to whoever thought of this idea. Those who don’t smoke can rest in peace and those who love the stick can go in and light up. Well, as I keep on marvelling at the idea of the smoking room, the door opens and from a kingdom of smoke I see the outline of a guy I know. ‘Hello guys, doing the Kozmo?’ he asks and I reply, ‘you bethca.’
