Rise in diesel price worsens
sufferings of farmers

The agriculture minister, MK Anwar, Sunday said the recent increase in price of diesel has aggravated the sufferings of the farmers. Normally, irrigation cost in Bangladesh is the highest compared to other neighbouring countries, the minister told a seminar. ‘Irrigation accounts for 28 per cent of the variable costs of rice cultivation in Bangladesh, which is 13 per cent in Punjab of India, 8 per cent in Thailand and 6 per cent in Vietnam,’

Dhaka yet to tap KL export market

Bangladesh is yet to tap the full potential of the Malaysian export market due to lack of awareness and interaction between the trading houses of both the countries. Shopping malls defy govt ban
on power

Shopping malls and supermarkets in the capital city continue to use government-supplied power during peak hours in defiance of a Power Division order. Almost every shopping centre and super market was found using full electricity during the peak hours on Sunday while the country suffered from around 500 to 700 megawatts of load shedding.
