LUX – CHANNEL-I SUPERSTAR
Blazing a trail to stardom

Lux has for long been the beauty soap of international stars, having been endorsed by global stars like Sophia Loren and Catherine Zeta Jones to national stars like Subarna Mustafa and Aupee Karim.
   In Bangladesh, Lux has sought to provide young, ambitious women with a platform to realise their dreams and ambitions. Starting with tie-ups with Anandobichitra in 1989 and then later with Anandadhara, Lux has been instrumental in introducing to Bangladesh some of the brightest stars, like Aupee Karim, Kushum, Bipasha, Mou and many others.
   Partnering with Channel-I, a contest has been chalked up that will provide an opportunity for young women to gain entry into the world of stardom and glamour.
   This contest has been named as ‘Lux Channel–I Super Star’.
   A press conference was held at a city hotel on June 14 to announce the launching of this programme. Faridur Reza Sagar, managing director of Impress Telefilm said ‘Channel–I has always been interested in doing innovative things and it is a great honour to be associated with Lux which has always been associated with glamour and stardom’.
   Naushad Chowdhury, Brands & Development director of Unilever in Bangladesh, added ‘Lux has been in the business of creating stars for a long time. We believe that our partnership will take the event to a new height and will provide enormous opportunities to women looking to become stars’.
   Subarna Mustafa, on behalf of the Lux stars spoke about the importance of the event which brings the glamour world within the reach of aspiring young women throughout the country.
   Girls over the age of eighteen can take part in this contest. The contestant has to send in 3 photos (front side profile and full figure) along with a write-up on her talents. The write-up has to be within 50 words. The entries have to be sent to this address - Lux Channel––I Super Star, GPO Box 507, Dhaka. All entries must reach the address by the 511 of July.
   Lux Channel––I Super Star will be aired nationally from July and the contest will be run for about three months.
   In the initial round, we will select 20 girls from each division. The selected contestants from six divisions will be judged by our distinguished panel of judges.
   The board will select 30 contestants for the next round. Among them, the participants will be short listed to 12 finalists who will run a race in a grand finale.
   The fate of the contestants rests not only on the hands of the judges, but also on the viewers who will watch this programme. From the 2nd round till the grand finale, the viewers will get the chance to vote their favorite contestant through SMS.
   The winner gets to star in the next Channel I film, and get to star in the next Channel I mega serial, and enter the glamour world of Lux as a brand ambassador.
   So if you think you have it in you to be the next Super Star, come join the contest!


Musical evening by Orchestra
CULTURAL CORRESPONDENT

The ninth musical show titled Smritymoy organised by Orchestra will be held at the All Community Club auditorium in Gulshan––2 in the evening today.
   Orchestra has been organising musical soiree where the group presents a renowned singer along with a new face. Today, Agun and Sraboni will render some songs.
   It may be mentioned here that the previous shows organised by Orchestra presented Subir Nandi, Fatematoz Zohra, Konok Chanpa, Farida Parvin and others.
   The entry fee is TK 300. Tickets are available at Almas in Gulshan 1, Archies Gallery in Gulshan 2, Pathok Samabesh at Aziz Super Market, Sagar Publishers on Bailey Road, Filmfare in Dhanmondhi, Ryans at IDB Bhaban and at the gate of the venue before the show.


Ultimate Killers

Steve goes to Florida, USA, to find the oldest group of animals on the planet, the crocodilians.


Destiny’s Child to perform
at ESPY Awards

Destiny’s Child will perform at the ESPY Awards in one of the trio’s final national television appearances before the group disbands in the fall.
   The sports awards show will be taped July 13 at the Kodak Theatre and will air on the sports cable channel four days later. Actor Matthew Perry is the host.
   Earlier this week, Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams announced they would split up when their world tour ends in September.
   Currently, they are performing across Europe and will launch the North American leg of the ‘Destiny Fulfilled...And Lovin’ It’ tour in St. Louis on July 9.
   Among the group’s biggest hits have been ‘Bootylicious’, ‘Survivor’ and ‘Independent Women (Part I)’.
   Nominations for the 13th annual ESPY Awards will be announced June 24. Fans vote for the winners in all categories recognizing major sports achievements, performers and moments of the past year.
