Chaaps for the gods!

by Asifur Rahman Khan

Let me ask you something. Have you ever wanted something so bad that you were willing to brave the traffic jams of Dhaka, sit under the scorching sun and finally eat at a place where the electricity fluctuates like the form of the Bangladesh cricket team? Well, if the above answer is yes, then I think writing about Bismillah Kabab House at Wari wouldn’t be such a bad idea. Of course, for me, I would pop up at any place where there is good food.

Mind you, my taste might be different from yours. But I would be reasonably accurate if I said that we countrymen just love to dig our teeth into beef chaaps sandwiched between warm oil-free parathas. And not just any chaap, but chaaps of a different level, which my friends compare to being gastronomic delights in itself. Sure, if you want chaaps you can go to Geneva camps or the Abahani ground for that matter. But where else would one get chaaps of the highest quality, with little oil as possible? And believe me when I say this, for I have roamed around the city for the best chaaps - nothing beats the chaaps at Wari. If the owner could somehow market his chaaps properly then I am sure he would have become equal to the stature of Bill Gates, or maybe even something more. The pricing is very reasonable, with the chicken chaaps priced at Tk27, beef at Tk20 and parathas at Tk3. The shop is quite small, so taking your family or your date is out of the question, but this is a nice spot for hanging out.
