Spiralling security
Visitors to the Ekushey Book Fair on Friday had to stand in lines spiralling and stretching both ways from the fair gates, which at one point reached all the way to the Press Club on one side and Shahbag on the other. All this due to the unprecedented security check up at the main entrance of the gates of Bangla Academy. Visitors had to pass through two archway metal detectors, and an additional one set up in the evening, as part of the huge security setup which includes 190 personnel (50 in plainclothes) of the Rapid Action Battalion, hand-held metal detectors, eight Close Circuit Television surveillance cameras, eight mobile teams, in addition to a massive police presence.
