Mukhosh: Mission impossible in masala

TOWHEED FEROZE

Okay, here is one Bangla film that despite a lot of obvious twists will leave you pleasantly surprised because of a few twists (at last). Mukhosh begins with Prince (Rubel) playing the role of a dissolute, immoral killer named Prince whose favourite clothes include long overcoats, very warm jackets and silk shirts (perhaps there was snowfall in Cox’s Bazar when the film was shot).
Anyway, he is killing left and right and has no scruples about which woman ends up in his room (somehow this part is not repulsive at all). However, he is shot and killed in the jungle by the local SP of police (Wasim) but to get to the top of a terror ring, the SP secretly buries Prince and gets a street vendor named Raja, who looks exactly like the terrorist, to take his part.
Yes, we get Rubel once more but this time he is the good guy infiltrating the gunda world to find out their godfather. But, there are complications because the real Prince killed a man called Shams and now his sister in revealing clothes is also working for the crime gang with a hidden desire to kill Prince.
But, this guy is not prince and so when this news gets to the sister, we hear the bells of love ringing on the Cox’s Bazar sea beach.
The result is the song ‘50 per cent kacche asho, 50 per cent ashi ami, 100 per cent duijonate dujon bhalobashi.’ The love interest is Nadi, a newcomer and if she can maintain her figure then she will go100 per cent in FDC, that’s for sure.
But, the police want a red diary that houses the names and contacts of all underworld leaders and when Raja steals the book from a safe that looks like a box made badly with paper, the game becomes heated.
And in between all this we get Ali Raj (resurrection) who is an Interpol officer also in pursuit of Prince and the gang. After a lot of ‘komor dulani’ and ‘prem-sagore-falafali’ with the song, ‘jodi boli prothom, bhalo laga, jodi boli prothom ratri jaaga, jodi boli prothom shawpna dekha, shei tumi, shudhu tumi’ we end up in a magnificent spot with hills on both sides with a fountain in between; well, top marks should go for choosing this area. Who said we do not have breath-taking locations?
By this time it transpires that Ali Raj is not an INTERPOL officer but the leader of the gang and when the SP discovers him cavorting with women and crooks drinking whisky that looks more like Coke, he shoots down the police officer.
But, as the SP dies Raja falls into trouble because apart from the SP, no one knows that this is not the real Prince.
Anyway, after a lot of twists we come back to the grand finale where women in abnormally tight clothes beat up the gundas and Rubel, wearing a white shirt, white trousers and a white overcoat flies in from no where ( here comes the flying man in white).
The terrorists are there and one leader of the group a Talukder really caught my fancy with his dazzling white hair, beard and eye-brows (Surf excel?).
Be that as it may, after the bad guys are pulverized to pulp and Afzal Sharif kicked in the ass by the women, we get yet another twist; but I leave that for you to find out.
Not a bad film but someone tells me that it’s a remake of an old Amitabh flick.
Don’t know about that but the matter of taking off masks reminded me of Misison Impossible. Well, this reviewer saw the whole film; that does make him equal to agent Ethan Hunt.
