Overseas buyers concerned

Global TU body condemns Savar tragedy

International Textile, Garment and Leather Workers Federation said Bangladesh’s factory collapse is ‘tantamount to murder’ and criticised the authorities for failing to ensure workers’ safety. ‘The tragedy is a combination of a desperate race for competitive advantage in a liberalised trade environment and the inaction of the public authorities in ensuring safe working conditions,’ says Neil Kearney, general secretary of the Brussels-based trade union platform that claims to group 220 affiliated organisations in 110 countries with a combined membership of 10 million workers...[ + ]
